Introduction: A Personal Calling:
As someone who has spent years crafting journeys across the vibrant and unexplored landscapes of Northeast India, there are places that still take my breath away—every single time. Jampuii Hills is one such wonder. Nestled in the northern tip of Tripura, near the Mizoram border, it’s not just a destination; it’s a revelation.
At Porijayee Tours, our mission has always been to connect travelers with stories, not just places. And today, I share one of mine.
The Road Less Traveled:
The drive to Jampuii is an experience in itself. As you ascend from the plains of North Tripura, winding roads gradually open up to misty vistas, ginger plantations, and rolling greenery. At around 3,000 feet above sea level, the temperature drops just enough to offer a gentle chill—refreshing and invigorating.
Our vehicles slowed near Vanghmun, the main village and entry point to the hills. There was a sudden quiet, a stillness that city life forgets to offer. That’s when you know—you’ve arrived somewhere truly special.
What Makes Jampuii Unique?
Jampuii isn’t a crowded hill station trying to sell souvenirs. It’s a soulful hill retreat where you wake up to birdsong and sleep under star-studded skies. Here’s what I love most:
Sunrise at Betlingchhip: The highest point in Tripura, Betlingchhip (around 3,200 feet) offers a surreal view of the rising sun painting the horizon in orange and gold. Every time I stand there, I feel time pause.
Orange Festival Legacy: Though commercial orange production has declined, the legacy lives on. I remember the scent of ripening oranges filling the air during my first visit many years ago—an aroma that instantly rooted itself in my memory.
Tribal Culture & Hospitality: The warm smiles of the Mizo community who call Jampuii home—there's authenticity here you rarely find. Their bamboo homes, traditional songs, and homemade rice brew are things I encourage every traveler to experience with respect and curiosity.
Eco-Tourism & Responsible Travel:
At Porijayee, we’re deeply committed to sustainable tourism. Jampuii is fragile—its beauty lies in its simplicity. We train our guides to ensure minimal impact on the ecosystem and maximum cultural respect. I always remind our guests: we are not visitors, but learners here.
The Porijayee Experience:
We organize curated 1N/2D or 2N/3D packages to Jampuii, including:
Stay at local guesthouses or homestays
Guided nature walks and short treks
Village interaction sessions
Local cuisine tasting
Optional trip to nearby Unakoti rock carvings
Final Thoughts:
Jampuii is not just a place to see; it’s a place to feel. It's where the clouds brush past your face, where conversations slow down, and where your soul finds space to breathe.
As the Director of Porijayee Tours, it is both a privilege and a responsibility to bring travelers to destinations like this—not to change them, but to be changed by them.
If you’re looking for a quiet escape, for hills that whisper stories in the wind—come, let’s discover Jampuii together.
Until then, travel mindfully. Travel meaningfully.–
